Designers and their work give you great inspiration. You want to create something similar. The first steps are the most exciting but can be confusing. You have to understand how the pattern works and why the size and shape of beads are so important. It can be difficult to make the first step if you do not have any experience. First you should explore every little detail of beading and then create something new.
I am going to show a technique which can be used for elegant pieces. It can be used for a necklace or an earring. This technique has been used so often that you can easily see it in many designs.
Materials you need:
- Czech seed bead 11\0 metallic gold
- Beading needle
- FireLine 0.008” or 0.006”
Thread your beading needle with 20-25” of FireLine. String 4 seed beads size 11.
Pull the beads to the end of the thread leaving a tail about 6in.
Loop back through the first two seed beads and pull the thread.
You should have this result.
Next, we’re going to form a new section. String 5 new seed beads and pass through the last seed bead your thread exited in the first group. Pull the thread. You will see a ring of seed beads where the 3rd seed bead should be centered.
Usually, you can just pass through the seed beads and exit the thread through the center seed bead, but this time I prefer to have this section in a square shape.
Go with your needle through the first seed bead of the 5 we just added. Pick up a new seed bead and pass through the next two seed beads. This is a good place to pull the thread because it is the center.
Repeat the same step on the left side. Pass through the one seed bead, string a new seed bead and pass through the next two seed beads.
We can pull the thread. This is the center seed bead. The majority of pieces of the beadwork have a line of symmetry. So, before I move forward, I check my work. Both sides should be identical.
Pass through the beads as shown and exit the thread through the next center seed bead. Pull the thread.
Now we’re going to create a new section. String 9 seed beads. The plan is to make a bigger ring with a square shape. One seed bead is a center seed bead 4 seed beads on each side, it is an even number that will enable us to maintain the square shape.
Pass through the first two seed beads of the new ring. String a seed bead and pass through the next 3 seed beads. It is a center seed bead. Pull the thread.
Pass through 2 seed beads, add a new seed bead and sew through the next 3 seed beads. Pull the thread.
Then continue to go through the next 6 seed beads exiting your thread through the center seed bead. Pull the thread.
For your future design you can plan to place in the middle a 3mm pearl or bicone.
Then we can add two more sections.
